Structure of the EPPO Codes

Nomenclature

EPPO Codes are constructed with a combination of 5 or 6 alphanumeric characters (regex : [A-Z0-9]{5,6} )

5 characters for plants

6 characters for animal pests and microorganisms

Taxonomic levels

All codes starting with 1 correspond to taxonomic levels above the species (e.g. order, family, genus)

The position of these taxon (other than species) in the taxonomic tree is indicated in the final character:
For example, all family codes include the character F at the end [1XXXXF]
